My father (Updated)
February 05, 2005 - 3:05 PM My father would like it to be known that he prefers "persistant" to "stubborn" and that he thanks everyone for their good wishes. He is doing well, despite no immune system to speak of at the moment. And lots of good wishes to his blushing bride as well. Ah, newlyweds . . . Anyway, I thank you all for your good wishes too.
My father was born in the year of the Dragon. He is proud, a fighter, and stubborn. Family lore tells of the time my father, as a boy, went to a restaurant with his family determined to order frog's legs. (No comment from me on the choice of meal, but Dad? Yuck!) When they weren't on the menu, he refused any dinner and sat in the car while his family ate. That's my dad. He's also been a fierce supporter of his children, and always encouraged me to follow my dreams and interests. Throughout my childhood, and even still, his belief in my talents was unwavering. That has always meant so much to me. For more than two years, my father has been fighting non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He has just started stem-cell treatments at a very good clinic in Seattle. I've been hesitant to write about any of this in my blog, because it's so personal and I wanted to respect his privacy. I hope he won't mind me writing about it now. My father, and my family, we're not really the praying kind, but if you want to send good wishes in the general direction of Seattle, please do.
